Day 12 – Nice – Wednesday 3rd August.

Did not get the best nights sleep as we had quite a bit of road noise and I needed the toilet but could not be bothered to get out of the van and walk to the toilets. The plan for the day was to head to Nice and have a look round. After having some breakfast we walked to the train station that was only round the corner. We bought the tickets we needed but the train was not for another hour so we went and sat on the beach for 20 min and then returned to the van to have a quick bite to eat.
The train was pretty quick to Nice, about 20 min. Upon arriving we heading for the old town which was filled with little cafes and bars. We walked along the beach and then climbed the 300 odd stairs to the old chateaux. Got a great view of Nice beachside (see pic).
After walking round the old town for a while and having a lovely ice cream from Fenocchio (which I highly recommend) we went to do some shopping as I was in need of some wife beaters as I was getting a terrible farmers arm tan and I also wanted to get Rachel some new sunglasses for her birthday. That complete we headed for a bar, which my sister recommended, called Chez Waynes. This was a Brit bar that had happy hour between 5 and 8 so we made the most of it as beer is not cheap here.
After having a few pints we got chatting to a couple of British guys, one of which works in Nice as a freelance web marketing manager. He must work really hard since he was in the pub at half three on a Thursday. Chatted to them for a bit. They we nice and was good to speak to some people that spoke English as a first language as I have been terrible with trying to communicate in French.
After a few more pints we headed back to the site to get some rest as we knew we needed to get the van to the mechanic the next day to get the brakes sorted.
